Among the records of the court of general quarter
sessions of the peace, in and for the county of
Berks, it is thus contained:

Elizabeth Hiester, of the borough of Reading,
Berks county, maketh oath, that Phoebe (daughter
of Dinah) A MULATTO FEMALE SLAVE, the PROPER-
TY of Joseph Hiester, of the said borough, was born
on or about the seventeenth of September, 1803,
and now enters her agreeably to law.
ELIZABETH HIESTER.”
Sworn and subscribed, January 7th, 1804, co-
ram me, Jno S. Hiester, clerk sessions.

I, John Addams, clerk of the court
of quarter sessions of the peace, in
and for Berks county, do hereby cer-
tify that the foregoing contains a full
and entire copy of the record of the
entry of all the SLAVES REGISTERED
BY JOSEPH HIESTER in the office of the clerk of the
said court; and that it does NOT appear from any
record in the aforesaid office, that ANY OF THE SAID
SLAVES have been EMANCIPATED.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand
and affixed the seal of the said court at Reading,
this second day of September, A.D. one thous-
and eight hundred and twenty.
